Paul introduces his work
'I studied ceramics to both BA and MA levels in Cardiff where I have lived and worked since. After completing the BA course in 2000 I co founded Elements Studio and Gallery where I remained for three years before returning to university.
Within my first professional year I was awarded a Setting Up Grant from the Arts Council of Wales which enabled me to develop a body of work and achieve my first solo exhibition 'Beyond the Surface' at Oriel Lliw, Pontardawe Arts Centre in 2001. I exhibited across the UK in events and exhibitions such as Art in Clay and Ceramic Contemporaries 4 as well as internationally and in 2002 was awarded Welsh Artist of the Year for the Crafts/Applied Arts category and as a consequence achieved a further solo exhibition in 2003, ' A Sense of Order' at The Model House, Llantrisant.
After the completion of my MA in 2004 I felt that time and space were needed to reflect upon the experience and carry out further research. During this time I attained a space at Fireworks Clay Studios where I held the positions of Chair and Director from 2008until 2013.
In 2011 I co-selected the Elizabeth Wait Purchase Prize exhibition 'It's what's on the outside that matters' at the Newport Museum and Art Gallery.
In March 2014 I received a further grant from the Arts Council of Wales to support the development of my creative professional practice at the Contemporary Craft Festival, Bovey Tracey 2014, Art in Clay, Hatfield 2014 and as Guest Maker at Craft in the Bay 2015.'
