Road Trip

New Arrivals

New Arrivals

A rapid trip down to London yesterday and back in the gallery with new works today! Thanks to Layla for doing the whole weekend in London, checking out The Other Art Fair and then two full days at Ceramic Art London, lining up lots of wonderful works for the gallery this year!

We have come back with work by three overseas artists. Grainne Watts, from the Republic of Ireland, and her amazing twinned walled works in stoneware and porcelain. She then decorates with underglazes and slips with mind boggling designs! They are beautifully finished and truly original!

More Ideas! Sorry, we do deal in Temptation!

Another whistle stop tour of the UK and we are back with more wonderful artworks to tempt you. 12 counties in 3 days and another 900 miles wracked up to make sure we have the very best to offer visitors to the gallery. We have also have Google in to create some internal 360 degree shots for Google Maps, so that you can check we really are doing what we say from the comfort of your home/office! It's up live and click the image below to check it out!

A Few More Ideas!

A Few More Ideas!

Firstly, we are back to be open on Sundays through December and will revisit this as a permanent offering if it proves successful. Open from 10:00 to 16:00 and later by prior arrangement, please do come and see what we have in!

Secondly, next Friday is late night opening in the whole of Kirkbymoorside and we are taking part. We will be open until 21:00 with drinks and more on offer alongside the wonderful art. And here are a few teasers!

A Few Ideas! Part One

A Few Ideas! Part One

You may have seen we recently went on our travels to collect lots of lovely new things. We had 30 studio visits in 5 days, covered nearly 1500 miles and came back barely able to speak! Here are a few hints of the work that arrived and it within the newly renovated gallery space.

We have one more trip to do before Christmas with new works from Jane Human, Karen Stamper, Nichola Theakston amongst others! Deliveries continue to arrive weekly as well with Laura Rich's large works and Darrell Evanes works arriving this week.

We are delighted to have welcomed Layla Khoo to the team this year as our gallery mananger, a role she has jumped into with gusto! Not that she has that much time with her MA at Sunderland ongoing, her own ceramics works and now the owner of the old HSBC in Kirkbymoorside. This may well become much needed creative spaces for local artists along with a new business with Mrs Bils & Rye that they launched recently (more about that in the next instalment!). We have some of Layla's scorched wooden works in the gallery at the moment (see below).

A New Direction - Louise McNaught

A New Direction - Louise McNaught

Using a combination of oil, acrylic and spray paints on fine grade box canvases Louise creates stunning animal works. There is a clever use of partial image that hints at the impact of humans upon the animal world. Her works are helping to chart the decline of many species.

More works arrived from Adam Frew, Cat Santos, Chris Taylor and Matt Horne plus some new cups from Rebecca Callis. Work continues on the gallery, both outside and in, meaning the displays are slightly askew at the moment so please do bear with us, we are open as often as possible given the high level of renovations to the building. It is best to check about our opening hours before setting off!

Renovations! New Arrivals Too!

Renovations! New Arrivals Too!

Mid June is the muted date for the external renovations of 5 Market Place, Kirkbymoorside. The old White Horse Hotel will change to something with a more subtle look. We will know more once we uncover the stone, however, the current plan is to replace the render with a more sympathetic product that allows the stone to breathe. The guttering gets replaced too and lots of the unsightly additions will be in a skip and off for a new life with Stig of the Dump.

Time for us to start considering what to hang from the sign board. Thoughts? If you'd like to see our suggested colour scheme (still subject to Listed Building Consent) then please do pop into the gallery for a cuppa and a chat.

SETTLED IN!

SETTLED IN!

It has been a head spinning few weeks since we made the decision to move the gallery. Five weeks from the point of signing the lease on 5 Market Place, Kirkbymoorside to opening the doors to a large new exhibition with 29 new makers! Meanwhile our plans for the stand at Cambridge Art Fair continued apace and we returned with quite a bit less work than we took. Now that that is over we can concentrate on the new gallery space which is proving to be a big hit with visitors and generally getting the seal of approval from the locals.

Cambridge Art Fair - 2016

Cambridge Art Fair - 2016

Thursday 29th September sees the fourth running of the Cambridge Art Fair in the Guildhall located on the Market Place. We have taken a large stand to show 14 of our highly talented artists.

It is an all ticket affair, you can download a free ticket from our website though and with over 40 galleries showing works by artists from all over the world it promises to be a great event and well worth visiting.

Chelsea Flower Show

Chelsea Flower Show

We were lucky enough to head down to Chelsea Flower Show last week and meet some of our amazing sculptors and add more to the mix for the future. It also provided a heap of inspiration for our next project, which involves the development of a private garden to show sculpture in an informal garden for private views.

This project is in the early stages but we are very hopeful that it will be fully open for next year, albeit with a lot of development ahead. We will post progress shots over the coming months as the garden develops and we select the sculpture to go on show for 2017.

Changes to Opening Hours

Changes to Opening Hours

Kate and I are off on our travels tomorrow. Sadly this means the gallery will be closed next week, reopening on Saturday 14th November.

Our landlord's will have the keys to the gallery, so for urgent requirements please do head down to the studios. It's probably best to give us a call on our mobiles to make sure someone is around to open up though!

Four Weeks and Counting!

Four Weeks and Counting!

This week I've been planning the road trip to collect from far and wide. Thankfully some lovely makers are bringing their wares to us, although the trek couldn't take much more in. I'm off to Nottingham, Leicester, London, Canterbury, Lewes, Farnham, Mere, Devon/Cornwall border. Two other trips are happening too, the Lake District and Lincoln!

Meanwhile our set designers are hard at work making something very special for the stand. We are delighted with their vision and hope you will be too.
