Top Tips for 2017 - Sculpture

Top Tips for 2017 - Sculpture

Moving from John Bunting's old studio was heart wrenching, it just felt right to be able to offer visitors a view of some really high quality modern sculpture from it. That said, the new gallery in Kirkbymoorside more than compensates with it's light and airy spaces. The three rooms offer us far more possibilities for showing off the ever changing sculptures sourced from all over the UK.

Here's a quick run through of the sculptor's we think are great buys right now, either for their value or for the stunning aesthetics they can bring to your home, office or garden. As with all our stock, home trials are offered to make sure the selected piece is right for you and if we don't have it in stock, we will do our best to get something that meets your wishes.

SETTLED IN!

SETTLED IN!

It has been a head spinning few weeks since we made the decision to move the gallery. Five weeks from the point of signing the lease on 5 Market Place, Kirkbymoorside to opening the doors to a large new exhibition with 29 new makers! Meanwhile our plans for the stand at Cambridge Art Fair continued apace and we returned with quite a bit less work than we took. Now that that is over we can concentrate on the new gallery space which is proving to be a big hit with visitors and generally getting the seal of approval from the locals.

9 Collectible Artists for the Year Ahead

9 Collectible Artists for the Year Ahead

It's been a while since we sat down and worked out who is good to collect and maybe bring some much needed positivity to your life and net worth! We scan the shelves and add a few that are soon to join the gallery. We would love your feedback too!

Chelsea Flower Show

Chelsea Flower Show

We were lucky enough to head down to Chelsea Flower Show last week and meet some of our amazing sculptors and add more to the mix for the future. It also provided a heap of inspiration for our next project, which involves the development of a private garden to show sculpture in an informal garden for private views.

This project is in the early stages but we are very hopeful that it will be fully open for next year, albeit with a lot of development ahead. We will post progress shots over the coming months as the garden develops and we select the sculpture to go on show for 2017.

Why Is Sculpture So Daunting?

Why Is Sculpture So Daunting?

Over the years we have been involved with the art business, sculpture has been possibly the least understood or approachable medium. We have recently sat down to consider why this might be!

Firstly the most obvious answer is the cost, making it unobtainable for many. Most art buyers will rarely consider the purchase or commissioning of a sculpture because they fear it's initial investment is beyond their means. Hopefully we can shatter this myth a little. Yes there is a lot of very expensive sculpture in the market but mostly this fits into the 'supercar' bracket. The majority is affordable, brilliantly made and potentially a sound investment in what is a whacky market.

Another Dimension - Sculpture

Another Dimension - Sculpture

2015 proved to be the year of sculpture in the gallery, with us finding new homes for more pieces than previous years. The supply has helped no end with top end sculptors asking to exhibit at the gallery and 2016 is the year we will spend more resources on bringing in more contemporary works from around the UK.

Here our a few of our picks for 2016 including a rather special new arrival!

Ringing A Few Changes

Ringing A Few Changes

Having returned from our first big external event, smiles abound from the experience, the people we met and the reception to our stand! Hard work didn't abate though with the need to completely rehang and dress the entire gallery! We have moved 1200 pieces over the last week and will be putting the finishing touches to the display tomorrow and Friday.

We have several new artists on board too including Juliette Bigley who makes stunning vessels from sterling silver and base metals. We also welcome Helen Dodds with her egg tempera paintings finished with gold leaf and a lot of her humour. Up from Cornwall come paintings from Amy Albright and we now have Laura Rich's North York Moors series available from the gallery.

5 Weeks To Go!

5 Weeks To Go!

The countdown has begun, we are just 5 weeks away from our first grown up exhibition. The Harrogate International Visual Arts Expo will be held in the Harrogate International Centre Hall M from the 20th November to the 22nd November 2015.

Bils & Rye will occupy stands A1 & A2 to the left of the entrance. It's a mixed show with some galleries and some artists showing their wares. We will be bringing a broad selection from the gallery with some special stars coming in for the show.

You can expect to see them in the gallery thereafter. Over the next four weeks we will be introducing each of the artists via our newsletter, which can be signed up for here.
