We have hand picked a few of the resident ceramicists and a few that we have lined up for later in 2017 as our top picks for the year. Each has a very different approach, either in making or in the finishing process. The results show the depth of talent in the UK and beyond and the broad range of ceramics now available across the UK.
We will continue to showcase these talented makers and many more whilst helping the emerging artists such as Rhian Malin to find a place in this buoyant and exciting market. We currently have over 40 potters on show from long time specialists such as Stephen Murfitt, Akiko Hirai and Tanya Gomez to the wonderful emerging talents of Albert Montserrat, Alex Shimwell and Cat Santos.
We have a number of selection criteria for the artists we show, not least form, function and finish. It's a delight to open up a box of the latest arrivals!
We have long been big fans of Alex's work. He is a acknowledge expert on the wheel with a diverse range of finishes all of a fabulous high quality. We welcome him back in February 2017 with a range of new vases and vessels fresh from the kilns in Sheffield.
Our first batch of Anne-Sophie's work has been so well received with work departing for Cornwall and conversations ongoing with clients in the USA! We love the humour, quality of build and finish.
We were fans as soon as we saw the one remaining vessel at Art In Clay two year ago. Nothing has changed bar our growing appreciation of the technicalities of Albert's work. New forms have arrived and glazes have developed over the two years and it's a joy to see him arrive with new work on a regular basis. Smaller, affordable and easier to house vessels are now reaching galleries across the country.
Rhian joined the gallery in September 2016 when we moved to the new premises. Her worked formed part of the Emerging Potters show and was a definite highlight. She has since returned with a batch of new work of the highest order, hard to believe she is an Emerging Talent!
We are on to a third batch of work from Alex such has been the reception to his stunning works and lustre based glazes. Perfect for any style of home, the classical forms and contemporary glazes work well with any backdrop.
We have long admired Adam's work and owned a few pieces too. We are delighted that from May 2017 we will have a range available from the gallery. From his Belfast studio, Adam has been creating stunning utility ceramics and gorgeous one off pieces to much critical acclaim. His throwing skills are evident and the glazes complete the picture.
Matt Horne - coming soon
Matt has really nailed crystalline glazes and we are delighted that from June 2017 there will be a range available from the gallery in Kirkbymoorside.
