It has been a head spinning few weeks since we made the decision to move the gallery. Five weeks from the point of signing the lease on 5 Market Place, Kirkbymoorside to opening the doors to a large new exhibition with 29 new makers! Meanwhile our plans for the stand at Cambridge Art Fair continued apace and we returned with quite a bit less work than we took. Now that that is over we can concentrate on the new gallery space which is proving to be a big hit with visitors and generally getting the seal of approval from the locals.
For those who have not yet made it to the new location, Kirkbymoorside is a smashing little market town on the edge of the North York Moors. It sports four pubs, a great Chemist that has a surprising wine and whisky cellar, several reasonable cafes and a host of other attractions. The architecture hints to a rich heritage too.
5 Market Place, offers us a great location to show the international standard of work we became known for in Nunnington. We have more space, more light and importantly a building of magnitude yet the old school charm is abundant throughout.
The Emerging Potters Exhibition continues to the 29th October when we will celebrate its success with a closing party. Also on show is Ryedale's latest potter, Albert Montserrat, who hails from Barcelona but has elected to make his remarkable vessels in Pickering for the foreseeable future. His work is a sublime combination of wonderful throwing on the wheel and delightful glazes and it is a sheer delight to welcome each new pot to the gallery.
We also have wonderful works by Samantha Bryan, Laura Rich, Tom Homewood, Veronique Paquereau, Thomas Bohle, Kate Schuricht, Simon Gudgeon, Philip Wakeham and Tom Hiscocks to accompany those already on show. We certainly believe that the quality continues to rise whilst retaining an affordability with pieces starting at £10 and rising to plenty!
