It's a very hard job narrowing down activities, restaurants and accommodation providers in our rural idyll that is Ryedale. We were first attracted to the area back in 2009 and moved to the area just two months after our first visit. Back then, we had no idea just how rich the area was for visitors and residents alike.
From Michelin starred restaurants through to excellent day-time activities, there is much to do. Over the course of the next few weeks we will do our best to introduce you to many of our favourites. They are not in any order, just suggestions to make a visit more complete!
You can't go far wrong booking the delightful cottages in Nunnington. Owned by residents of the village, they are equipped fantastically and provide an excellent resting place after an active day out on the North York Moors. Convenient for York, Harrogate, Leeds and the dramatic Heritage Coast, you really can get away from it with 5 star luxury in a traditional stone cottage. The gardens are gorgeous too!
Look no further than the Star Inn in Harome for a fine dining delight. Now back to its very best having regained their Michelin Star. We recently ate there and it was, without a doubt, one of the finest meals all four of us had ever eaten. The quirky menu, the old pub bar, exemplary service and finest ingredients create a special occasion. Allow around £100.00 a head and you'll be in gourmet heaven with a local accent on each dish.
For those on a smaller budget, eat the market menu in the bar, you can't book so you just have to hope your lucky enough to get a table!
The diversity of the North York Moors continues to astound us. Often portrayed as a wind swept wasteland, it couldn't be further from the truth. From amazing heathers, wild sheep, incredible hill farms through to deep forestation and stunning coastlines, the moors have it all. We particular love the stunning Dalby Forest, with it's mass of nature based activities and also the modern delights of Go Ape, mountain biking routes and challenging walks. The scenery is a must for professional and amateur photographers and artists such is the wonders of nature within the park. It's great for a day out for everyone.
