In her work the figurative representation breaks up, the forms are slightly falling apart giving free hand to the less visible to emerge, this way Melinda is aiming to control and manipulate paint to dig out her subjects’ unsettling emotions revealing their innermost feelings, experiences, aspirations and hidden obsessions. Ideas taken from her daily life are transformed into possible painting subjects in her North London studio where the process of giving birth to a new painting is sometimes slow, having in mind an idea for months before starting work on it, hence most of the times she is working on several different paintings simultaneously.

The images are based on different sources: photos and observations of herself as a subject and body or photos of subjects taken by Melinda, previous life drawing experiences, images of old newspapers or online sources, as well as movies. She is fascinated about colour and texture, they equally define the figuration in her work.
