John works in porcelain, thrown on the wheel, and finish using glazes based on traditional Chinese recipes - copper red, celadon and tenmoku - fired in reduction to around 1300C. He makes pots that can be used, or at least look as though they can be used. John is inspired by many things, but his first love is Imperial Chinese ceramics, exemplified by the pieces in the Percival David collection, now housed in the British Museum.
