Nunnington Cottages, Nunnington

“Set in the charming little village of Nunnington, there’s a touch of the Gingerbread House about these two little fairytale cottages, what with their stone and oak floors; wooden mantles, beams and tresses; brass beds and homely furnishings. Embellished throughout with splashes of red – be that Rosedeen’s Aga or the apple-print oilcloth in Strawberry’s kitchen - all that’s missing is a red, hooded cape. Fortunately, the only surprises here are thoughtful ones, with wine, home-baked goodies and classical music, all part of Nunnington’s personal welcome. Outside, the large, shared garden dishes up views across the Vale of Ryedale and the Moors, along with homegrown fruit and vegetables that are yours to pick.

The Star Inn, Harome

Once described as ‘absurdly pretty’, the thatched pub with its low beams and wonky walls (which mean the pictures won’t hang straight!) has centuries of hospitality steeped into its very timbers.

Chef/Director, Andrew Pern, regards himself as just a chapter in The Star’s long history, despite being the owner of the pub since 1996, when it was acquired in a near derelict state. Since that time it has not only been restored, whilst maintaining and enhancing its abundant character, but it has picked up a long list of prestigious awards and expanded to incorporate a hotel just across the road…

Cross House Lodge, The Star’s nine-bedroomed hotel was converted from some former farm buildings and joined the family in 2002 after extensive renovation work to create shooting lodge-style accommodation with the option of private dining in the Wheelhouse (also licensed for weddings).

The Star has regained its Michelin star status for 2015 - a further celebration of its consistent position as one of the country’s top restaurants on its 18th anniversary of Andrew’s tenure.
